Journey to Dental School

So, the journey to dental school was a funny one for me. When God, gives you a calling you need to hear it. My journey to dental school was at an unexpected time. It all began in Jamaica where I majored in Biology as a high schooler. I found I had a passion for Biology and being good at it was also a plus. Hence, I decided to pursue Biology as a major in College. In undergrad I was affectionately referred to as "Bioman", kind of funny but this was because of my love for and good performance in the field.

Coming from a healthcare background, my dad a pharmacist and my eldest brother a medical student,  I always knew I wanted to do something in the health field. At an early age, all I thought of was medicine because, that was what I was exposed to. I worked at various emergency rooms and acquired immense knowledge of the medical field. As my final year in undergrad drew near, I expected to matriculate into medical school, but began doing my research into other fields. I wanted to make sure, the career I would practice for the rest of my life was exactly what I wanted.

After doing research into the dental field, I knew I wanted to be a dentist. But it was not until I did some hours of shadowing and volunteering in an Oral Surgery clinic that I became passionate about this decision. I applied for dental school, and due to my solid grades ;) I was able to select which school I wanted to attend. Now I am happy to say I received the "welcome to the entering class of 2009" letter today! I am excited and nervous but I welcome the challenge of dental school and look forward to serving others.

If you have a dream, go for it but remember God is ultimately in control.
